Fancy. Parts 1 & 2. Fancy. Parts 1 & 2.

A belated Frau Holda for #Sketch_Dailies, aka an excuse to work on backgrounds.

Created in Photoshop using Kyle T. Webster’s brushes!

On the days that I struggle with body image issues I’ve found that drawing a self portrait can help me step back and see myself objectively. Lauren the “Artist” can look into the mirror and focus on the shadows and highlights and lines that make up the face rather than the blemishes and the uneven features and the extra weight that make it “unattractive”. Sometimes I have to remind myself to think like an artist and see my face as one just like every body else’s, full of hundreds of tiny features that make it unique, flawed and beautiful. That being said, I can never seem to produce a self-portrait that I’m completely happy with. If I figure out a way to permanently stop being my own worst critic, I promise to pass that info along. :)
